Al Howard and the K23 Orchestra is one of the many kickass bands that contributed to our Oingo Boingo tribute album.
The result of the creative friction that exist between the five members of the K23 Orchestra is beauty born from tension resolved. Their music is based on structured improvisation, gradual builds and heavy sustained peaks, a rapid fire, yet articulate vocal delivery and swift dynamic changes. They’ve shared the stage with artists such as Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Robert Walter’s 20th Congress. Their rendition of Boingo's classic 'Grey Matter' blends jazz, funk, and hip-hop into a truly surprising experience. These guys stay with us whenever they're in town, and we recently recorded one of their shows, with no specific plans to release anything. We're discussing a free co-release of that incredible live show they played here in Seattle. More to come... Click Here for Al Howard & the K23 Orchestra's Website!

Singer/Songwriter Brett Dennen joins the ranks of Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and John Mayer as one of those artists who emerges on the scene as if fully formed. The voice is distinct, the songs feel like they truly belong to the singer. A level of self-possession animates the performances, delivers them right to your doorstep. Nothing feels forced . . . it just is. There’s an aura of inevitability that surrounds the emergence of such artists.
Brett’s rendition of Oingo Boingo's 'Private Life' on our Boingo tribute album breathes a feeling of both past pains and new hopes into the song’s meaning. Click Here for Brett Dennen's Website!

Formed with the sole purpose of being the first band to record for our Boingo tribute album, Disbonded was born from the remnants of defunct Seattle group, The Bond. Originally from Alaska, the musicians blended the folksy sounds of bluegrass banjo with sensible pop and psychedelic rock. They don't really exist, but we created a little myspace page for them at www.myspace.com/disbonded. Dig.

Portland-based band Intervision mixes elements of jazz, pop, and soul into a gorgeous contemporary sound. Often compared to Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Maroon 5, and Steely Dan, Intervision is recognized by its tightly woven three-part harmonies flowing effortlessly atop infectious grooves. They have opened for platinum act Lifehouse, and have received extremely flattering write-ups in both The Oregonian and Unsigned Magazine.
Their version of Boingo’s most popular single, 'Dead man's Party' (appearing on our Boingo Tribute) redefines it for a new generation. Click Here for Intervision's Website!

Yes, the lower-case is intentional. From the suburban slums of San Diego comes jack the original (who performed 'Heard Somebody Cry' on our Boingo tribute album), a four-piece band with a charisma and musical style not unlike The Beatles or XTC. Their unique style of piano driven ‘dork pop’ has evolved into an irresistible blend of memorable melodies and original arrangements, fusing old school charisma with modern style and sound. They have performed at The House Of Blues, and have shared the stage with major touring act The Romantics. Their melodic re-creation of this popular classic still gives us goosebumps when we hear it.
These guys don't perform as much as they used to, but when they do, check them out! And if you can't, try one of their various other projects, especially Get Back Loretta or the Mechanical Cats. Click Here for Jack the Original's Website!

Maneja Beto was born from parents of contradiction... Mexican and American, tradition and pop. Traveling between the traditional sounds of Mexico, and the postmodern moods of brit pop bands, Maneja Beto produces sounds with no conception of borders. A crashing of influences, they take pride in their creation of music that is altogether their own.
Their version of 'Skin' on our Boingo tribute might be one of the most surprising in its differences from the original. Click Here for Maneja Beto's Website!

Mark Lemhouse (who appeared on our album Drink to Bones That Turn to Dust: a Toast to Oingo Boingo courtesy of his label, Yellow Dog Records), plays the kind of porch-stomping blues you'd never expect out of an Oregonian.
As a troubadour representing himself in the truest possible way, Lemhouse once said; “Well, I play guitar and write about things the way they happened... But I lie too. If they don’t happen that exact way, I’ll start makin’ stuff up in a heartbeat...Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.” “If there was any justice in the music world, Mark Lemhouse would be a star along the lines of R.L. Burnside or a Dwight Yoakam.” - Pop Matters Magazine He may not be on our label, but we love him anyway. Click Here for Mark Lemhouse's Website!

Known primarily online in the Songfight community, and often referred to as “The Mighty Octothorpe”, the band originally formed in response to the songwriting competition at http://www.songfight.org. A winner on their first outing, and entered the next 26 weekly fights. Octothorpe has now produced three albums of SongFight! entries! SPIN magazine wrote “Octothorpe ... sounds like it’s performed by Kermit the Frog driven to severe psychological disassociation from years of fronting a death-metal band”. They were another of the bands on our Boingo tribute.

When he recorded "Spider" for our Oingo Boingo tribute album, the group was called The Scott Fisher Band. Now they go by Scott Fisher and the 1 a.m. Approach. A band by any other name would still make music sound as sweet.
Scott Fisher’s piano and Rhodes-based brand of rock blends pop familiarity with the intelligent musical depth of a master songwriter. Often compared to artists such as Ben Folds and Steely Dan, Scott’s danceable rhythms, lyrical poeticism, and crooner’s voice assure him a place in any music-lover’s playlist. His version of Spider features gorgeous vocals and an arrangement that combines funk, soul, jazz, and drum-&-bass into a cohesive unit that feels as natural as a born classic. The Shiftless sound is a blend of rock and funk, bringing a fresh perspective to the old-school: combining wah-wah funk and butt-tingling brass with a crunchy dose of southern rock. Compared to War, Blood Sweat and Tears, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Frank Sinatra, and sometimes Lynard Skynard, their contribution to our Boingo tribute sends us to a place where the martinis are dry, the lounge is dimly lit, and leisure suits are a snug fit.

Dep't of Records first noticed the incredible virtuosity of this young musician during his stint with Austin-based act, The Asylum Street Spankers. After leaving the Spankers, Sick recorded an amazing version of 'Nasty Habits' for our Oingo Boingo Tribute. He's been working hard as a regular member of seven (7) different acts.

Sneakin’ Out both confirms and explodes listeners expectations. Performing recognizable songs, but with a disorienting instrumental twist, Sneakin’ Out creates an atmosphere that unleashes laughter, headbobbing and group sing-a-longs. Having played venues as diverse as bars, festivals, and concert halls, they have developed a loyal fanbase. Often referred to as the best kept secret at the High Sierra Music Festival in both 2005 and 2006, their version of 'Little Girls' (on our Boingo Tribute album) gives listeners a vision of Henry Mancini playing punk music.

Remember the original “New Wave” & “Punk” movements? Generation X, The Clash, Gang Of Four, XTC, Devo, Sex Pistols, Tubeway Army. Bands with the same frustrations, emotions & feelings...but radically different sounds.
When they recorded a song for our Boingo tribute, we thought, 'Imagine if the original Dead Kennedys had done a Boingo tune -- this is what their contribution might have sounded like.' Click Here for The Cheats' Website!

We met these guys at SxSW '06, and became fast friends. They contributed an awesome rendition of Oingo Boingo's "Lost Like This" to our Boingo Tribute album, "Drink to Bones That Turn to Dust: a Toast to Oingo Boingo".
They Walk Among Us is an innovative rock band based in Wales, UK. who has worked with acclaimed producers Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) and Richard Jackson (Super Furry Animals). In their recent US Tour, the band was widely received. In 2005 TWAU supported Alabama 3 on their UK Outlaw Tour.
